Canadian Safe Boating Council

The CSBC manages a number of important events and activities.

We welcome your participation in any or all of them.

North American Safe Boating Awareness Week (NASBAW) - The CSBC produces the North American Safe Boating Awareness Week campaign each year and delivers it through centralized national and local volunteer outreach to the media including TV (both local and national), radio and national and community newspapers throughout the country

SmartBoater.ca - SmartBoater is a CSBC initiative using the web to create 'the place for boating safety'.  Geared to 3 audiences, the recreational boater, the media and boating and water safety educators, SmartBoater.ca provides targeted boating safety information in an interesting, entertaining and interactive way.

Cold Water Awareness - The CSBC has created two important outreach programs to educate the publc and first responders about cold water; both the risks about sudden emersion and for first responders, how to properly manage a severely hypothermic victim.  Cold Water Boot Camp and Beyond Cold Water Boot Camp are important programs that are changing how Canadians deal with the deadly risks of cold water.

Annual Symposium - Each year the CSBC hosts a Symposium at different locations across the country to deliver safe boating presentations, discuss emerging safety issues and share information and outreach ideas with our members and others

Canadian Safe Boating Awards - (CASBAs) The CASBA's is an annual event each year designed to recognize the contributions of organizations and individuals who have demonstrated outstanding performances related to boating safety and the environment.

PFD Wear - The CSBC is a strong advocate of Lifejacket/PFD wear, recognizing that it is the most effective tool to reduce drownings on Canadian waterways. As part of that commitement the CSBC initiated a benchmark study in partnership with SmartRisk and the Cook-Reese Memorial Fund for Water Search and Safety about to review and develop options concerning increased PFD use for recreational boaters in small craft.

Messaging - There are 5 Key Messages developed by the CSBC to provide consistent 'important' message delivery by its members. The are Wear Your LIfejacket, Don't Drink and Boat, Take a Boating Course, Be Prepared - You and Your Vessel and Be Aware of Cold Water Risks. All CSBC messaging is focused around those 5 Key Messages.

Newsletter - The CSBC authors and distributes a newsletter on a regular basis to keep members, the media and the general public up to date about what is happening with the Council and boating safety in general.
